Spotted these puffballs this morning. The second one was as big as a football, the first slightly smaller. There was also another one about the size of a cricket ball. As you can see the slugs were tucking in.

Ridge and furrow

This is a meadow B and I walk through almost every morning. I don’t remember this happening last year and it’s so distinct that I had to take a pic. What looks like a mown pathway is actually where the cows have eaten down the grass in between the ridges of the ridge and furrow that covers the whole field. They’ve done it on every furrow and more or less left the ridges intact.

Evidently the grass is tastier in the wetter furrow than on the well drained ridge.
